Making sure all camping equipment, vehicle and boat are in good working order Before you leave home Check weather forecasts and current road conditions to avoid being stranded by torrential rains and storms that can occur in Queensland, especially during the summer months. Once at your camp site pay to attention to what youre doing. Avoiding walking and climbing on cliffs and waterfalls. THERES NOTHING LIKE AN ACCIDENT TO SPOIL THE FUN. The ground in these areas may appear to be stable though may easily give way or be slipery. Always follow safety guidelines posted and stay out of prohibited areas to avoid an accident. Plants and Wildlife All plants and wildlife are protected in national parks and state forests removing or disrupting any of these could lead to criminal action. So try not to disrupt or damage plants when walking or erecting your tent. Take a photo and leave it where you found it. Feeding or disturbing the wildlife could lead to several problems. Not just for you but the people after you. Wild animals are dangerous and unpredictable feeding and disturbing them can make the problem worse. Fires Make sure your camping kit contains a fuel stove. Fires are often prohibited. And high fire dangers can result in total fire bans. Where fire places are provided, always light fires in the designated areas and use the firwood provided. Do not cut trees down for fire wood. Always extinguish fires whenever you leave a campsite. Never use dirt to extinguish a fire heat is retained and re-ignition could occur. Always use water. Rubbish Bins are often provided at most camp sites there is no excuse for burying or burning rubbish. This can pose a threat for the environment and for the local wildlife. If bins are not provided double bag your rubbish and take it with you. Pets Pets are not permitted in National Parks and are often prohibited from other camping areas. Check if pets are allowed before you leave home. If you want to camp in national parks, leave domestic animals like cats and dogs at home. Domestic pets may disturb other campers and may also disturb native wildlife leave them with a friend. Restrained dogs may allowed in some areas though it always pays to check first. “The information for each camp site will be clearly displayed on its respective page. The information provided is correct at time of publishing though may change with little notice.” Fees for Camping. The majority of camp sites in Queensland do charge a fee for camping. Fees vary from $1/person/night up to $40/site/night. Always ensure you register your site and pay the appropriate fees to avoid penalties for illegal camping. Rangers do patrol the areas and can show up at any time time. To make there job as simple as possible always s display permits as instructed. Fees may also apply for fishing in some areas especially stocked dams. Permits are easily obtained from the local fish stocking associations. Permits are valid from 1 day up to a year depending on the option you choose. Penalties also apply for people who are fishing without the appropriate permits. Camp sites that take bookings may be booked out, mainly during school holidays and long weekends. It sometimes pays to check availability a few weeks in advance to avoid disappointment.
